Moray Council rejects Dorenell Wind Farm
Today Moray Council objected to the 177-megawatt Dorenell Wind Farm which Infinergy proposes to construct on the Glenfiddich Estate. A special meeting of the committee was split 4-4, with four Independent administration councillors voting to object to the plan and four SNP members supporting the project.
It took the casting vote of planning chairman Councillor Stewart Cree to determine opposition to the plan. Although the decision for over 50MW projects lies with the Scottish Government, Moray's objection triggers the project to go to public inquiry. Infinergy's Managing Director Esbjorn Wilmar told journalists: "This is very disappointing. I wonder how we are ever going to meet the renewable energy targets in this country."
